This is one of the oldest map in existence of the island of Puerto Rico, dated 1592. The inscription is in latin “Island of San Juan”. The island was first called San Juan and the city was named Puerto Rico (Rich Port). As time passed the names were inverted, island of Puerto Rico and the city of San Juan. The full name of the city is San Juan Bautista / Saint John the Baptizer.
